Art for the home as instruments of self-reflection
With mental health being top of the agenda in recent news, it is important to reflect on how art can be an important instrument for self-reflection. Spending time with a work of art can allow one to unplug from the stresses of daily life, and help to find a sense of peace, calm, and tranquillity.
Many of us have experienced the pleasure of losing yourself in your favourite masterpiece whilst exploring a museum or gallery, but to do so at home is an experience quite like no other. There is a sense of closeness and understanding as the artwork opens your mind to new thoughts, leading to new interpretations, and emotions not felt. It is an entirely personal experience, and one that is enjoyed in the peace and solitude of your own home.
It is taught that when analysing a painting, you need to look for thirty minutes, and then you are ready to see. Whilst this is to the extreme... we don't all have half an hour to stare at an artwork... we do strongly encourage you to spend some time with a single work, instead of simply a passing glance. You may be surprised by what you find!
This is one of the many reasons we at Byard Art are so passionate about art for the home. Beyond a museum or gallery setting where your favourite work is enjoyed by all, the work you take home belongs only to you. So when choosing an artwork, listen to the feeling that makes a certain piece jump out, because owning something which has meaning to you is one of the greatest gifts one can have, and then watch your home become a space which brings you joy and tranquillity.
