Hiring is an expensive business!
Companies that delay the hiring process or have unnecessary bureaucracy, often do not attract quality ?talent.
Question: Shall hiring be done for skills or last job title?
I recently read an article published by McKinsey that talks about the importance of hiring for skills. It says that “Assessing candidates based on skills, rather than their last job title, can help fill critical roles with the best talent.”
Needless to say that corporate leadership should focus on hiring, harnessing and retaining quality human resources, and that is the only best way to stay productive and profitable.
Recalling Seth Godin’s book “Linchpin”
“The job is what you do when you are told what to do. The job is showing up at the factory, following instructions, meeting spec, and being managed.” – “Your art is what you do when no one can tell you exactly how to do it. Your art is the act of taking personal responsibility, challenging the status quo, and changing people.”
Good leaders find those linchpins and harness them to perform at their best, an effective process to attract top talent, drive performance and enhance retention rate. I would say that this is a non-negotiable skill every corporate leader should have!
A survey done by Gallup found out that that employees who feel their managers care about their personal growth, discuss career progress, encourage development, and provide learning opportunities tend to thrive in their roles, leading to lower turnover, increased sales, higher productivity, and improved customer loyalty.
In simple words, “Harnessing Talent” should be part of an organizational growth strategy.
Here is a Six-step process -A well-rounded talent development strategy should encompass six major areas:
1.????? Talent Strategy and Planning

2.????? Talent acquisition
3.????? Employee Performance Management
4.????? Training and Development
5.????? Succession Planning
6.????? Total Rewards
More details are in this image.
?Growth poised organizations train their managers not to only oversee tasks but to ask “How can we harness employees' strengths, interests, and passions to create greater value for the organization?"
Moreover, they engage in regular discussions with their team members in getting the consultative answer!
