The Art of Diagrams
Diagrams are not just beautiful pictures for software engineers.
The process of producing a diagram is as important as the diagram itself and what happens after. The process raises all the important questions that could and will prevent last minute scrambling or a severity 1 issue in production.
Now that you have an initial version of a diagram, what value does it add?
First, it will help you as a team fight off distractions or less relevant things because the diagram gives you the focus. The diagram is used to sort out confusions and misunderstandings that will come throughout the project.
The diagram is not a destination. Once you have an initial version, you as a team need to keep enhancing/adjusting it from conversation to conversation and from meeting to meeting.
Every engineer needs to get comfortable with the diagraming tools at some level; these tools should be their second IDE ;)
Thank you for reading. Keep geeking out.
