The art of creating the@tre
If necessity is the mother of invention, creativity has turned out to be a pretty good father.
The pandemic shut down theatres across the world.
And that's when the ultra-creative among thespians started a new genre of theatre that is best spelt the@tre.
In November 2020, The Red Curtain e-staged the Good The@tre Festival & Awards. Each play showed ways the@tre could continue. Cast, crew, and audience could be in the same time and space. Every performance changed with the audience of that day. As good theatre should. No retakes. For the@tre, geography became history.
You could book a front-row seat in your own home from anywhere in the world and not have to miss the theatre.
Now, about a year later The Red Curtain has curated the Good The@tre Festival & Awards 2021 that demonstrates just how creative thespians continue to be.
In spite of the challenges of theatres still being shut in many parts of the world.
This is the production that will be opening this Festival of The@tre that refused to be scared by a pandemic.
The original version was awarded The Reddie for the Best Production and for the Best Ensemble in 2020. Then it featured actors from 3 continents.
This version is not eligible for The Reddies as it was co-produced by The Red Curtain in July 2020.
It features a cast and crew from 5 continents who perform simultaneously to a real-time audience. People in 30 countries have already watched 7 shows.
If you haven't seen it yet, you should. Book the September 19 Festival Curtain Raiser now.
And then you might want to become an Audience Jury Member for the rest of the Festiv@l if you choose to watch all the six plays from six countries competing for six awards. The best in the@tre produced between August 2020 and August 2021.
