The Art of Buying Art

Jack Ma once said “When you are 50, you need to do what you are good at, and pursue all the hobbies and interests which you could not in your youth, as till then you were only busy chasing wealth”.

I don’t know when I picked my brush for the first time, maybe I was too young to even remember, but whenever I did, I enjoyed it so much, that I never ever felt I was doing a job. I only retired to bed once I realized it was already morning and I had to stay awake at school, college or the office during the day.

So finally, I decided to dedicate certain part of my free time to art. I am consulting “Art & Beyond” in promoting their art and artifacts.

There are two kinds of people you face when you deal with art, one kind who is not much interested in art, but wants to pick up a few because it’s a done thing. But he would not be ready to pay even 20 or 30k to pick up a lovely piece of art where as he or she will shell out 30-40k in stitching a lehenga or a sherwani for just one event at a friend’s wedding.

There is another type who genuinely wants to own art but does not necessarily has an eye for it, and hence makes a few wrong choices, and often get disillusioned. People either buy art for the love of it, and want to own it, or they want it to do up their house or any other space, or just as an investment the way they invest in stock market.

To the people who buy for the love of it, you are the real art lovers and you know what you want, and It always helps if somebody who is connected with art can help you get the right genre, artist and price range or commission customized art for you.

The third kind where people want to buy art and artifacts to do up their house, it needs guidance unless you are naturally gifted with the eye for it. What is the genre of painting or art that goes with the décor of the house, is it traditional, modern or eclectic? What’s the wall color the flooring & rug etc. decides the colors the art should have as its main theme colors. If already you have too many of similar color or style, you will need one with different color or style to break the monotony.

My final advice, though art can be a great investment, please do not buy art just for the sake of investment, as in case of lack of appreciation, it would not be a disappointment, as at least you procured a piece of art which you love just for its art.

Now about Art & Beyond, the company was founded about 10 years back, and have representatives in New York, Dubai, London, Singapore and all across India. Art and Beyond has access to art ranging from masters like Raza, Paresh Maity, Hussain etc. to the moderately established and the absolute up coming artist at very affordable prices. Please remember few of these up coming artist if invested in time may become invaluable assets to own in future if they hit the big league, as that is how the trajectory of most masters pan out. Due to this access to up coming artist, there is a huge scope for commissioning art and customization as per your needs and at affordable prices.

Art & Beyond also supports and promotes up coming artists to give them market and platforms, and that opens us to a huge market of exquisite but affordable art.

I would be regularly announcing on my handle the exhibitions and work shops conducted by major artist in your respective cities, and you are welcome to attend them for buying or just for the love of it.

I am sharing below the links to the sites and the social handles for you to follow to buy and enjoy the art. In case you are looking at procuring any for your house, office or friends, please do connect with me to help you get access to the best in its genre.
