In this weeks Be Seen Bites, I’m asking why it feels so difficult for someone to own what makes them remarkable.
One of the things I’ve noticed over the years as part of my “business as usual“ is how difficult some of us can claim what makes us unique, what makes us stand out and what makes us remarkable.
Just this week I was reminded on four separate occasions of how we can allow imposter syndrome to seep in, leading to self doubt, ambiguity or deciding that a thing goes on the list of not to do.
Reminder one: As the ink dried on a talk that’s to be delivered this month, part of the brief is around the ability for the audience to be motivated. So my talk will include self motivational ways to dodge that feeling of impostor syndrome.
Reminder two: as we delved into the inaugural iconic welcome call module, one of the things I’m extremely passionate about is having people set up for their own success. On that call we discussed ways to remind ourselves that we’ve earned our stripes.
Let’s face it, when we’re part of a program called iconic, there are bound to be times where we find ourselves internally wandering “who am I to…“.
The addition of knowing and reinforcing within ourselves the very things that make us iconic is a much under utilised life skill.
Reminder three: I’ve taken 1000’s of calls throughout my 15 years working with people, businesses and corporates where they ask a version of why they should learn X, Y or Z from me or my company?
It was when I was talking to a friend recently about what can seem like a fine balance between answering this often unspoken question, that I reflected on these.
It takes masterful positioning to express exactly how someone can help and to specifically select the best fit list of accolades that will show a person their own possibility.
Positioning our abilities becomes particularly important when the very thing they really need is something they often don’t see.
Reminder four: just this morning as we gathered for our weekly writing space, the prompt as always synchronistically wrapped up some of my own reflections for the week. We were simply asked to write about what makes us remarkable.
I say simply asked, an easy task you might say on the face of it, it’s a prompt that took a few twists and turns in my mind, the result in part is what led to me writing this weeks Be Seen Bites column.
As I looked at my blank page I immediately typed
“I am remarkable because…“
A slew of ideas filled my mind from personal achievements to professional milestones, exceptional experiences, amazing accolades and just as quickly as I’d started to type my lines, I suddenly paused for thought.
You see, depending on your previous experiences or ability to embrace self development, it can have us feel either at ease or slightly challenged.
For some the task of owning and claiming what makes us extraordinary, exceptional, amazing, astonishing, astounding, marvellous, wonderful, sensational, stunning, incredible, unbelievable, miraculous, phenomenal, striking, outstanding, momentous, impressive, memorable, unique, noteworthy, great, distinctive, important, prominent, distinguished, feels mostly…
Out . Of. The. Ordinary.
It’s the very thing that stops the most brilliant, wonderful, amazing people in their tracks.
In her book, A Return To Love, Marianne Williamson once said something (that is often attributed to Nelson Mandela) and it’s;
“ Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure, it’s our light not our darkness that most frightens us.” ~ Marianne Williamson

Over the last 15 years while running a company that seeks to have people ultimately:
Be Seen. Be Heard. Be Visible.
So that they're:
?? Taken seriously at work
?? Never laughed off stage
?? Memorable for the right reasons
?? No longer electing to be Invisible
?? Supported before they realise they need to be
To have an unshakable knowing that while their voice, contribution or opinion matters, they can successfully raise their profile while authentically being heard.
Visibility is an inside job! ~ Jenny Kovacs
So let’s start with making that list of what makes you so unapologetically remarkable.
I’d love to hear your journey, reflections and your stories, on something that you read in this column, feel free to share below either;
Your own brilliance and what makes you exceptional, remarkable or amazing*
Or
Something that you see in someone you think is remarkable and what about them makes them so.
PS The asterisk is added because if those words don’t resonate with you try one of these instead…
Extraordinary, exceptional, amazing, astonishing, astounding, marvellous, wonderful, sensational, stunning, incredible, unbelievable, miraculous, phenomenal, striking, outstanding, momentous, impressive, memorable, unique, noteworthy, great, distinctive, important, prominent, distinguished
