The Art of Barniz de Pasto and Its Appropriation of Other Cultures

We are celebrating the publication of the first article in our Heritage MDPI special issue Lacquer in the Americas. The paper was written by Yayoi Kawamura, Professor of Art History at the University of Oviedo, Spain, and is titled "The Art of Barniz de Pasto and Its Appropriation of Other Cultures".

The article is available open access in both English and Spanish (thanks to the translation by Natasha Vargas , assisted by reviewers Robert Esposito and Laura Ramirez Polo , all from 美国罗格斯新泽西州立大学新布朗斯维克分校 ).

In her paper, Professor Kawamura explores the links between barniz de Pasto?and Japanese export lacquer: a fascinating read, especially for those who, like me, are very partial to Japanese art.
