The Art of Army Management - Efficiency, Dedication and Honour

?I take immense pride in my roots, and I firmly believe that the Army has had a profound impact on shaping me like no other organization could have. It is often said that an organization's character is molded by its people and leaders, but I can confidently assert that the Army is the only organization that uniquely shapes its leaders. The Army itself is a living entity indeed, a revered institution brought to life by its well-defined and time-tested Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and its distinctive identity - the Nishan. The entire force is motivated by these three words - Naam , Namak aur Nishan.

Having had exposure to working with civil organizations and lots of interactions with others as well, one resounding truth, I can very proudly state that the Army's management system is undeniably among the finest. In today's context, where we often discuss Lean Six Sigma and advanced technologies to streamline complex processes, it's remarkable to witness how Army has deeply ingrained this lean system within its core. Army very naturally, inherently and seamlessly maintains its operational efficiency through a self-evaluating mechanism, ensuring that its processes remain sharp and effective.

The Army is renowned for its meticulously defined guidelines, which extend to even seemingly trivial tasks, such as organizing a tea party. I vividly recall attending a significant event where every detail, including the movements of stewards, was carefully planned to ensure that each guest was properly attended to. ?We, then youngsters, were making fun of the organizing unit for having gone to the extent of creating diagrams for steward placements and briefing them on their roles and areas of responsibility. However, in hindsight, I now appreciate the profound significance of paying attention to such minute details. This type of nurturing expands to other areas of management to mitigate all potential pitfalls.?

The record offices of the Army are so systematically organized that all entitlements owed to war widows/retirees/ wounded soldiers or their families are expedited efficiently. It is the Army that proactively reaches out to the concerned individuals in order to facilitate the handover of all necessary documents, rather than burdening the family with the task of chasing their entitlements. This exemplifies the Army's commitment to ensuring that those who have made sacrifices and contributed to the cause, receive their rightful support and recognition without unnecessary delays.

The training imparted to Army officers over the years equips them with strong analytical and logical thinking skills. These capabilities enable them to effectively tackle a wide range of challenges and solve complex problems. In the Army, there is always a constant movement of vehicles, personnel, and resources with minimal effort and losses. Such intricate operations cannot simply occur spontaneously. Instead, there is a finely tuned machinery that operates tirelessly to minimize losses in terms of manpower, equipment, and other valuable resources. This level of preparation and attention to detail ensures that every movement and operation is executed with precision and efficiency, reflecting the Army's commitment to optimizing its resources and achieving its objectives effectively.

One amazing thing about Army that no one talks about is the functioning of Army units while transferring from one station to another. When an Army unit is on the move by train, the entire operation, logistics, and management is a marvel of organization and efficiency. The offices are set up in compartments equipped with telephone lines to facilitate effective communication from the first compartment to the last compartment. Sentries are on duty around the clock. Daks are collected and dispatched also. A full-fledged pantry, catering to the thousands of soldiers , work tirelessly to ensure all sleep with a full stomach. ?It's a dynamic and complex process that keeps the unit fully functional even while in transit. A documentary on this topic, produced by renowned channels like Discovery or National Geographic, could offer a deeper appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of the military in ensuring readiness and efficiency, even during transit. It would provide valuable insights into the intricacies of military logistics, communication, and coordination on the move. Many of us, who have experienced this firsthand would like to agree that it's a remarkable display of teamwork and adaptability.

In essence, the Army's steadfast dedication to achieving excellence, attention to every detail, and adaptability even in the most challenging circumstances make it stand apart. It's a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our defence forces, and I hope that the world can one day witness the incredible behind-the-scenes workings of our Army units and know the worth of all rank and file, and inspire a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices and hard work of our servicemen and women who serve our nation with unwavering dedication.

Jai Hind!!!!
