Arrowhead Awarded AMRCS Cove Transfer Station Removal Action Project

Arrowhead Contracting, Inc. (Lenexa, KS) was selected by EPA Region 9 for award of the Cove Transfer Station Time-Critical Removal Action project. The project represents the first task order awarded under the Navajo Area—Abandoned Mine Response and Construction Services (AMRCS) contract. The AMRCS Program was developed to provide construction and remediation services at numerous former uranium mine sites located throughout the Navajo Nation.?

The Cove Transfer Station site is located in the Northern Abandoned Uranium Mine region of the Navajo Nation, in Cove, Arizona, northeast of the Lukachukai Mountains.?

Major scope of work elements include preconstruction surveys, excavation of radiologically contaminated soil, radiological soil sorting and reduction, stockpile management, site backfill, regrading and revegetation, and off-site transportation & disposal of contaminated soil. Primary contaminants of concern are Radium-226, arsenic, selenium, uranium, and vanadium.

Arrowhead will be supported by a highly experienced team of firms including Navajo Engineering and Construction Authority (NECA), Envirocon, Jacobs, and Perma Fix.?

The project commenced in February 2023 and is scheduled for completion in 2024. The project value is approximately $20M.?
