Arrogance VS Confidence - Ali's Words

Arrogance VS Confidence - Ali's Words

Arrogance versus confidence is an issue we come across quite often when coaching young footballers. As coaches we develop what we call a “footballer’s ego” in the players. All successful players have a footballer’s ego which is essentially the confidence that allows them to give their best performance. It is important to show off your skills and abilities and have faith in them. Self-belief gives you more power and control which multiplies the chances of success and makes you deliver under pressure.?

Having said that, let me clarify that there is a very thin line between arrogance and confidence. The issue arises when this line is crossed. Attitude issues are more common in today’s generation. Young athletes do not know how to manage their egos and start thinking too highly of themselves.?

Owing to this issue, this season we had to release one of our brilliant players. Technically he was a sound player, very competent, and super talented. His only persistent problem was his attitude. This preseason he came back, asking for another chance. I was willing to take him back. However, when it was mentioned we would see if he can be accommodated in team A or B, he was unable to digest it and laughed in response.?

The reaction alone reveals his seriousness towards football. If you need a second chance badly enough, then you must be willing to compromise and be ready to make the changes because of which you were expelled in the first place. Having confidence is good, but thinking you're the best stops you from learning. Being cocky and arrogant will get you nowhere because no one likes such people. A professional club will not want to welcome an 18 or 19-year-old who does not want to listen or take advice. Conventional wisdom discourages taking in athletes who become uncoachable and unmanageable.?

To progress in life or in any profession you must continue to develop. You must take feedback with an open mind and work on the weaknesses highlighted because laughing it off won’t help much in the long run. The coaches are there to maximize your talent and help you grow.

The dissertation is very good. First comes character, personality, companionship, healthy behavior towards everyone and respect. You definitely need help, you need to learn to socialize, learn to live in a group and understand that there is a hierarchy. If you have talent, make them see that the greatest athletes in the world never boast, others speak for them, humility is the basis of any human being. Example: Ronaldo Fenomeno never said he was great, and so many others. Do nothing out of strife or vainglory, but out of humility; let each regard others as superior to himself. Philippians 2:3 Give him as many opportunities as necessary, a tree grows downwards first and takes years to expose its beauty, so the biggest victory will be to transform him into a better human being and example. Discipline, know how to lead the situation in a progressive way, seek understanding in the word, books of books (Bible). Ask him what's the biggest miracle he (boy) has ever performed? Start small!

Just met a Footballer this week that was in this path of what I do to correct for correct what I didnt. He is so good but I said to him that talent without Hard work means nothing and we see many players with short talent but big DISCIPLINE and RESILIENCY and for that they get what they want and also the talented players always in the most of the time they forget that they need to work on that skills and stop saying I am the Best and for that the clubs will hire me, and we all know that this is not the reality. Lets keep pushing for greatness all together.
