The Arrogance of Fame?

As I soared through the clouds, I found myself contemplating the behaviour of those we often elevate to the status of celebrities. The hum of the aircraft engines filled the cabin, prompting a recollection of an incident that starkly illustrated the arrogance of fame.
Imagine this: a bustling airport terminal, passengers hustling through security checks, and amidst the throng, a celebrity stood (whom I did not recognise). Her presence was marked by a couple of fans seeking selfies. Yet, it was her demeanour that caught my attention—an air of entitlement that seemed to repel rather than attract.
As passengers boarded the bus towards the aircraft, a young man standing next to her recognised her with excitement. Gathering his courage, he approached and asked for a photo. Handing his phone to a fellow traveller, a picture was taken. But as he attempted to adjust his position for an Instagram-ready shot, she pulled the phone and almost threw it as she exclaimed,
" Bahoot Ho gaya, Album thodi banana hai”
“That's enough, we are not here to make an album." Her partner, held her hand and said "relax, its just a photo". Her sharp words, coupled with her turning away, left the young man disheartened. In that moment, it became evident how fame had distorted the perceived celebrity's sense of human connection. Instead of embracing genuine encounters, she recoiled. What struck me most was not her desire for privacy, but the manner in which it was expressed—with an inhuman disregard for courtesy.

The incident highlights the inherent disconnect between fame and humility. While privacy is undoubtedly precious, it should not shield against basic human decency. Celebrities, like all of us, seek moments of solitude, yet they must remember the responsibility that accompanies their elevated status. As Spider-Man's uncle wisely said, "With great power comes great responsibility" a sentiment sorely missed in this case.
As the aircraft descended, it dawned, fame, though coveted, should never cloud one's humanity. In a world where admiration often verges on idolatry, it's important for celebrities to remember that their pedestal is upheld by those who look up to them. I've encountered celebrities who graciously accepted selfies, while some requested privacy, a gesture I respected. Mutual respect for privacy and humility is key.
So, should you find yourself as a celebrity, soaring through the skies, remember that true greatness lies not in fame's heights, but in humility's depths. Perhaps then, you'll remember that we are all human, regardless of titles or accolades.
PS: I am still scratching my head trying to identify who the celebrity was.
