The arrival of Bluetooth 6.0 opens a new era of precise positioning

On September 4, Bluetooth 6.0 was officially released. Its biggest highlight is its centimetre-level positioning capability, which allows users to track items more accurately. For people who often lose their Bluetooth headsets, this is a great boon. Imagine that we only need to open our phones and enter the location to easily find our headsets, pets, and even other items at home. With this, the previous record of missing Bluetooth headsets will no longer be a frustrating thing.

On September 4, 2024, the Bluetooth SIG released the latest test case reference list TCRL 2024-2 (Core 6.0), marking another milestone in the testing and certification of Bluetooth technology.

TCRL 2024-2 will be enforced on December 3, 2024, providing Bluetooth device manufacturers with a quarterly transition period.

Updates from V5.4 to 6.0:

1. Updates to the Test Specification (TS) and Implementation Conformance Statement (ICS) ensure that the test cases are consistent with the latest version of the Bluetooth core specification;

2. Added the CS protocol, which enables two-way precise ranging between two Bluetooth devices and can achieve centimetre-level positioning accuracy. This means that whether it is finding lost small objects or performing indoor positioning and navigation, it can be more accurate and efficient;

3. The update of RF-PHY is mainly to adapt to the channel detection function of Core v6.0, and the general test case conditions and parameters are updated.

The Bluetooth Alliance's update to TCRL 2024-2 (Core 6.0) provides a testing and certification foundation for the development of Bluetooth technology. With the introduction of new features and the update of test standards, Bluetooth device manufacturers can ensure that their products can meet the latest technical requirements and provide users with a more stable and efficient Bluetooth experience.
