Yesterday , though I rejoiced the festival of Diwali , but the day came to an end with a sorrow when I get to know about the demise of our legendary , iconic actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay .Though I am not much of a movie bug or critic , but there are few actors who really have shared their agelong , enriching experiences and have given loads to the industry . Though Uttam Kumar is taken to be the Tom Cruise of Bengali Movies , and humongous fan following is there who keeps the mind of Bengalis awestruck with the kind of his screen presence , and the female minds still do wobble when they look into his screen presence .
But some how the multifarious experiments of Soumitra Chattopadhyay , has made Bengali films reach a separate genre of excellence , where his played characters are irreplaceable , and I dont disregard the fact that no one in future will ever try to attempt those characters played by him . The way "Feluda", "Apu","Chunilal", had been portrayed since our childhood , I salute the overabundance of his screen persona , which depicted the level of expertise he presented to his audience .And his films have taken us to various journeys in our lives which may be we do not dare to portray as our inner voice . His approach to the characters he played is extremely detailed and could actually give us an entry to a world of array .
While watching "Belaseshe" day before yesterday , he was 80 years while he acted in the film , I still cannot deny the administrative hold of the character being the head of the family as a father he played at this age also. An authority on screen , with an immense knowledge to portray all the characters is an experiment in itself . I do feel, an actor is known for how authentic he/she plays the character he or she is being given to .
Bengalis are known to be academically obsessive with all their creative instincts knocking their brain to keep their learning molecules on . That 's how I define Mr. Soumitra Chattopadhyay , a gem with loads of diversity who gave new wings to Bengali Screen since ages unknown . Through him , at least I learnt to study Bengali cinema and the heritage it carries with it . Its an eternal loss for Bengali Screen.
