The above chart is a basic flow of SEM Sample Preparation, and yet there are still additional, very time consuming and expensive steps to produce your 2D image.
GET ONE STEP WRONG; "RINSE & REPEAT." More Likely, Discard & Start Over
While you are planning #SEM #TEM #AFM Legacy Tools Sample Preparation, Inspection & Analysis with Applied Research & Photonics, Inc. Terahertz Continuous Wave (THz_CW) Nanoscanning 3D Imaging & Time Domain Spectrometer Systems - TeraSpectra would be completed. ARP TeraSpectra are revolutionary tools for imaging and metrology. While the benfits of ARP T-ray imaging should be obvious to those "skilled in the art," of inspection and metrology, an obvious, yet overlooked benefit of ARP T-ray imaging is the SIMPLICITY of Sample Prepreparation. Quite SIMPLY, there is NO sample preparation; PLACE SAMPLE IN HOLDER, DONE! Begin NanoScanning.
I am not saying that there isn't a place for SEM/TEM/AFM/X-ray/Optical/Forced Ion Beam/etc., nor am I discounting the quite amazing images and research that have resulted from these methods. What should, however, be obvious to those "skilled in the art," is that these methods are DESTRUCTIVE, mostly IONIZING, and/or require CONTACTING(disturbing) the sample/device under test and after, typically hours of rather complex sample preparation time, effort, and expense. Same applies to "Touch" for Contact Probe Card Prepackaging Die Electrical Test.
I forgot to mention, SIZE limitations for the above samples. T-ray effectively has NO Device Under Test dimensional limitations. Those are determined by tooling.
So, please don't discard your very costly and limiting metrology tools, we only suggest that you to consider the benefits of Applied Research & Photonics, Inc. T-ray 30THz_CW Nanonscanning 3D Imaging and Spectrometer - TeraSpectra.
