Around the Bases 8/17

Welcome back! It's been a great month so far with a lot of new beginnings for a lot of the community here and to see some colleagues getting a chance ti stretch themselves in a bunch of new ways. Thanks for your time here- the climb to 900 subscribers is on, and we are getting closer each week.

With August in full gear, it reminds me of days gone by when the PPR season starts going with the fun exercise of self-evaluations getting produced for your managers to read and review before they get their side of the process going. I was pretty humble when I did mine for a number of years. I of course, did it in like 10 minutes (why not, of COURSE I have a great idea of what I have done in 10 minutes). Then, I shifted my methodology in the last few I did, taking a little more time (a week) to get my thoughts organized and yes, to brag a little about what I did the last year. Why? Because it's OK to brag a little- this is YOUR evaluation. Your value needs to be highlighted, and few people can do it as well as you can. Remember you have NOTHING to lose- just be honest with yourself and make a big deal out of the things you are proud of and see where it goes. I found the process to be pretty freeing, and it gets easier the more I do it.

This week's Something to Watch comes from the TED channel on YouTube featuring Maya Shankar who is a great follow here. Her story is very unique, and her talk here offers a great perspective on change- pretty amazing.

This week's Something to Read is another one from a colleague of mine, and an awesome one. Michael Yam was a great member of the ESPNEWS on air team who was so great to me when I was producing. He is currently at NFL Network, and he changed lanes a bit and wrote this excellent children's book. A great example of "you never know". Awesome stuff here from one of the best.

This week's Something to Listen To is a podcast I just discovered. "Magic Lessons" has a lot to offer, and this episode stuck a chord in me. Brene Brown is a noted author, and she offers her opinion on creativity which I thought was pretty cool.

Here are the Top 10 Roles I saw in the past week. There is still a lot going on with our CBS Sports digital team, and I got a lot of nice buzz with the 10 I posted last week. Back to just 5 this week, but the Paramount job board is a great resource for those looking. Please reach out to me here for more on any of the roles posted below, as I am a direct contact for the CBS roles and may have a way in or 2 at the others.

Here is just one from the Golazo Network, but there are so many more worth looking into.

Looking for an ally as you launch into a search for a role in the sports media industry? I have the industry knowledge and expertise to help you straighten out your plan. Not sure if your resume is up to snuff? Need a review of your resume reel or portfolio? Maybe a few tips and strategy sessions? I can help in all of those areas and then some. I've been in the business for a long time, and know what makes a difference in getting noticed and have plenty of connections to get you in front of the right people. I have been in the career coaching business for the last 2 years, and have helped more than my share of connections here. please check out my website below to see how we can help each other out. The consultation call is free and it can lead to a lot more f you are willing to invest in yourself.

That's it for another week, a quick shout out to those starting new roles or taking steps towards something new (you know who you are!). The climb to 900 is in full swing, and I appreciate all of you who are spreading the word about what is going on here. Have a great weekend!

You’re the best! Thanks for the Fried Rice and Marinara mention! ??Just know I still quote you at NFL Network. “The B’s if you please” and “This is for keeps” are just a few of the Roche-isms that still resonate in my head!
