Around the Bases 7/6

Welcome back for another edition as the community here keeps growing as we head towards 900 subscribers. Thanks again for your time here, you all have played a big part in what is going on here- it means more to me than you can know.

I'm sure many of us here are filled with more questions than answers after the news last week involving so many front facing talented people who were laid off by ESPN. I was fortunate enough to know and work with a good number of them and what happened to them makes very little sense. What it does mean is the group of great people no longer associated with them keeps growing, and I'm looking forward to seeing where they all go from here. I've said this before in this space- the world is WIDE, and there is a lot out there, and the effort you make to find out may pay off in ways you never knew of.

This week's Something to Watch gave me a needed dose of inspiration earlier this week. A former colleague of mine from rosier times at ESPN, Sarah Langs, was honored at Yankee Stadium with other women also afflicted with ALS, during the Yankees "Hope Week" initiative. The video below is a recap of July 4th at the Stadium. Her parents threw out the first pitch and the joy displayed below was awesome to see. To help her cause, visit the link below the video clip (the link does work, just click on "Watch on YouTube").

This week's Something to Read is one of the best pieces of sportswriting I have seen in recent memory. I had Sally Jenkins' latest book here a few weeks back, and this article is another example of her unreal talent.

This week's Something to Listen To is another podcast from Mel Robbins. Lots of great episodes to choose from, I thought this one would be good to share.

Here are the Top 10 roles I saw this week, with the first 5 from our team at Paramount . My digital team at CBS Sports HQ and and at the Golazo network in Stamford is looking for a producer to go along with the other 2 roles below in our Stamford, CT office. Please DM me here or email me at [email protected] for more, as I am either a direct connection to the roles below or I may be a connection for the others.

The Las Vegas Raiders are looking for some help on their great video team- my connection there is very strong and I can get you to him easily!

Looking for a lifeline to sort out your pathway into and through the sports media industry? If so, we should talk. I have been fielding more calls than usual lately, and that has my engine running harder then usual. I know I have the institutional knowledge a LOT of places are lacking lately that can help you plan your next steps. It can range from resume and LinkedIn profile production to reviewing your demo reels (for in front of and behind the camera). I was pretty lost when I was finding my way through the weeds of a job search, and luckily, I had 2 coaches that really got me through it (the truly great Bryn Z. Johnson and Laura Crouch ). I am offering that kind of help here- a personal approach to helping you get better and find your way to your next professional goal. Feel free to check out my website below and set up a free consultation call and see where it goes. The first step is all it takes.

That's it for another week- any word you can spread to those who you feel would get something out of this newsletter would be appreciated. I have been hearing from a lot of you, and would like to keep things rolling as we head through the summer! See you next week!
