Around the Bases 7/10

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend. I want to roll out the red carpet for the new readers here, and also send a big thanks to the regulars who have made this newsletter what it is and will continue to be as we enter our 3rd year in this journey together.

I have recently seen something I have preached over the years in action. I have often said to many of my colleagues seeking advice- "You are either cool with your situation, or you are doing something about it". If you are cool with where you are, awesome, this is the state we are all looking to be in professionally and personally. If not, then get moving, even if it s just a little. If you continue to plow through a situation you are not in love with while deep inside you know you would rather not be in, not only will you not be the best version of yourself, but those around you will be affected. You owe it to yourself- do something to get things in motion while trying to be the best version of yourself as you go forward.

I came across this week's Something to Watch a day or so ago. Michael Yam had been featured here before (awesome children's book) and his recent Ted talk about his story and the story of why he wrote the book is pretty cool. Mike's rise through the sports media world is inspiring and this is just a sliver of his journey.

The Case for Diverse Children's Stories

Sports can offer us a lot besides the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat (OK, I stole that, thanks Wide World of Sports). This week's Something to Read is a collection of tips and such from some great leaders from the sports world. Sam Walker offers a look inside what makes those leaders tick.

This week's Something to Listen To is an offshoot of some music I am listening to a lot lately. Jimmy Buffett means a lot to so many (no parrot head hats for me at the moment), and David Senra takes a great look at Jimmy's story in an episode of his Founders podcast.

The All-Star break in baseball is next week, a great showcase of the best in the bigs that I really loved as a young baseball fan, and still love to this day. They guy (Mark Fidrych, look him up) in the picture above started the 1976 midsummer classic (the Bird took the loss, but still), and is the perfect "you never know" story. How a kid from Northborough, Mass. can be one of the star of stars is pretty crazy. If you need some help with your story, we should talk. I have used my depth of industry knowledge to help countless people in the sports media industry in my many years in the business with all kinds of things. I have spent the last 3 years doing much more of this with my company featured in the website below. Among the services I offer: Resume producing, content reel reviews, LinkedIn profile tips, and general career coaching that will help you do something about what you may not be cool with. Take the first step, check out my website below, and set up a free consultation call and see where we can take your story.

That's it for another week- a shout out to those in the community who are starting something new (you know who you are!). Enjoy your weekend and don't wait to start something!
