Around the Bases 4/29
Welcome back! Sorry for the late post- a busy week for sure on my end, but I am also rescheduling the posts to Mondays going forward as we are heading into year 3 here at ATB. Thanks to all of you who are showing up here every week- I have been getting a ton of feedback from many of you recently, and the kind words mean so much. The climb to 1300 subscribers is almost complete, so thanks again for spreading the word.
Overdoing it, regardless of what you are doing is a tricky slope. Having dealt with it more than a few times in my career, I want to remind all of you that taking care of yourself as you deal with it is beyond important. I often speak about what you want here in this space as a key component to achieving your goals, but who you are and what makes you you is equally so. Try to take a second and do something totally different that you love doing, then take 2 seconds tomorrow, and 4 the next day, and so on. The balance you are seeking is closer than you think.
I saw this the other day and just had to post it for this week's Something to Watch. Susan Murphy (an awesome follow for anyone looking to be on-air or improve in that area) has some great advice in this post. I also added her website- she will help you get better at your on-air delivery, be it video or audio.
This week's Something to Read is a little different. It is a menu from a restaurant a colleague of mine, Rick Angelo owns. Rick was a producer at ESPN and was in our industry for most of his career. He shifted to the restaurant business a few years back and is thriving on his new path. Great guy and a great story here. Sometimes, the path you may find yourself on is one that you could never imagine. So, If you are in need of breakfast or lunch and you find yourself in central Connecticut or Northern Massachusetts, check out Ellie's farmhouse.
May 3rd is Digital Awareness Day (who knew?), and as one of many who appreciates the advancements in what our devices can do for us, but also woud love to throw the phone into a nearby pond at times. This week's Something to Listen To comes from The Happiness Lab. Great tips for everyone on how to deal with your devices.
Here are the Top 10 roles I saw this week with the first 5 coming from our team at CBS Sports. There is a LOT going on with us, so don't hesitate to reach out to me here or at [email protected] for more on those or anything you see below.

A month that started in the Arizona desert and ended at the Atlantic Ocean is over for me, and I hope all of you had a great month as well. Before we head out, kudos to those here in the community who have started something new (you know who you are!). Thanks again for your time and see you next week!

Write and sound your BEST. With the industry in flux, now's the time to level up. NDs: Let me do the hard work with your newer hires. They'll shine, I promise.
