Around the Bases 3/21

Welcome back! Sorry about the late post- spent way too long filling out my brackets this week (not busted- yet). Thanks for taking the time here as always, and a big shout out to the new readers here this week. I hope what I have posted below gives you a boost you might be looking for.

I had a great chat with a client this week about personal branding, and I pulled an analogy out of nowhere when we were chatting how to go about making a personal brand. The landscape for this is tricky (see "Something to Read" below), as we are human beings and brands are not. The analogy was about one of my favorite cookies, the Oreo. I said "An Oreo wasn't an Oreo until Nabisco made it". Sure, there were other chocolate sandwich cookies out there, but they somehow found the perfect ratio of flour, cream filling, sugar and cocoa (all things that have existed for a while), which makes them a go-to for us cookie people when we are at the store.

The lesson? You have to find what traits and habits that have gotten you this far, and find a way to get them out there and in front of the right people so you will be the one they pick at the "potential candidates" store.

This week's Something to Watch comes from a great go-to YouTube channel for me, "The Welcome Conference". The speaker is Lt. General (ret.) Nadja West, a person who knows a thing or 2 about leadership, and gets into that topic here.

The "Do, Know, and Be" of Leadership

This week's Something to Read may help those of you who are looking for a tip or 2 on personal branding. Debbie Millman has helped me out a number of times in the past few years with her podcast, video posts and articles. This is one that I really plugged into this week.

The Personal Brand Paradox

A great podcast this week for Something To Listen To from the crew at Hidden Brain Media. This great episode examines something that hold so many of us back.

I was watching a baseball game the other day, and there was a lot of face time in this particular inning for the 2 (!) hitting coaches employed by my favorite team. Teams in the majors used to have 1, but now 2 is the norm, as there is more guidance needed for the professionals that have already made the big leagues help them with something they all have been doing since they were 4 years old. If you are in need of some coaching, whether you are a rookie trying to get into "the big leagues", or a veteran looking for a new approach to an ever-changing sports industry, we should talk. I offer a ton of services of all kinds (resumes/reel and content reviews/LinkedIn strategy, etc) backed up by a high level of industry knowledge and energy that will get you some results. Please check out my website below and set up a free consultation call by emailing me at [email protected]

Stormers15 Media Group

That's it for this week- a final shout out to those who have taken a brave step into something new (you know who you are!). The climb to 1300 subscribers is in full swing, and the efforts on your part to spread the word about the newsletter is really appreciated. See you next week!
