Around the Bases 2/16
Apologies for being a day late, as it has been a tough week with the loss of my friend Barry. I have spent the majority of the week connecting with so many of my pals from my days at ESPN swapping some great stories about what he gave to all of us.
I was reminded of this quote when I was on a call with Gus Ramsey (Program Director at Full Sail University- a great follow for anyone in the industry), who was another person at ESPN who was a big help to me and so many others. This quote really sums up what Barry was all about. For so many people in so many places, Barry was such an influence on how to conduct yourself as a leader. So positive, so present, always there when you needed him. His "coaching tree" is so wide it's impossible to measure.
His incredible presence on LinkedIn was a great inspiration to me once I got going here, and his and has guided me so much with Stormers15 Media (Stormers being short for the Barnstormers, the softball team we both played for) and most of my activity posting things in and outside of the newsletter draws from his spirit of always looking to help. So today I'm breaking the usual format (like all good producers should do) with some great posts so those who have not seen them in the community here can get a taste of what Barry was about and hopefully some of his advice here can help you as it did for so many of us lucky to have been around him in our lives.
This one is from a great connection I have made here- Bryan Fenley. Bryan has interviewed so many of my colleagues (and even me!) and this is his must see chat with Barry.
The next watch comes from Gus Ramsey, a cut down version of a 2 hour session Barry did with the students at Full Sail.
There were a couple of podcasts this week I came across that had some segments about Barry, The first is from Richard Deitsch, a great media reporter with the Athletic. Fast forward to the last 10 minutes or so.
This is another from Keith Olbermann, who took a few minutes to salute Barry in his Monday pod. It starts at the 27:42 mark.
Here are some great words from 2 great people, Scott Turken followed by Jay Levy.
Barry was an all timer at sharing posts on LinkedIn for so many (including me) to help them search for roles that could be the right fit for them. Here are this week's Top 10 roles I saw this week that might be a great fit for you r someone you knnow. As usual, the first 5 are with our team at Paramount. The digital sports team is hiring like crazy, so I won't post those roles, but we are looking for PA's with the HQ sports team and the soccer team at Paramount Plus has several roles they are trying to fill. I am or have direct connections for the roles with Paramount (3 hires and counting!) and may be a connection for the other roles listed. Please DM me here or email me at [email protected] for more info.

The crew at Ross Productions has several roles (Jay Levy is the CP there), this was one that stood out to me. They have a great team at the Connecticut office.
Barry was a HUGE Giants fan- this is a role that looks pretty interesting.
Barry had a huge impact on his students at Quinnipiac U. Here are 3 spots at some schools that could be great for you!
I could go on forever about Barry. He'll be missed dearly by everyone. He'd always sat to all of us "Don't forget your friends!" so that is my advice I'll pass along. He was so great at connecting with everyone, and it doesn't take a lot of effort, so keep that front of mind when you can and stay in touch with the people that mattered to you. See you next week!
