Around the Bases 12/8
Hello and welcome to another edition as we roll into the fast approaching holiday season. Thanks to all of the regular readers here, and a special shout out to the new readers as well. I'm working on a video form of this and should have something in the works in before the holidays.
Betting on yourself. I know this is an extreme example, but if you take the money out of it (yes, hard to do, but still...) what Aaron Judge did isn't so far fetched. He had an opportunity to sign an extension last winter, said no, went out and risked his chance to get paid what he felt the market would set for his value, and hit the jackpot. He had a historic season and avoided the injury bug that has bitten him from time to time. He ultimately knew what he wanted, and saw the process through to get that. On a smaller scale, that doesn't seem like such a reach. The winter is just after your year end review- and I know I heard the old "just keep doing what you're doing" trope before you get whatever raise they determine is the right amount for your value. If what you want lines up with what your employers want from you, awesome. If what you want doesn't, stand strong on what you think your value is and see what might be out there either at your place of employment or somewhere else to see if it works out in your favor.
This week's Something to Watch is a throwback to something a lot of us grew up with if you are a child of the 7's. "Schoolhouse Rock" was a Saturday morning staple for a lot of us, and this week, the last surviving creator of the series passed away. His name was George Newall, an ad executive who had a huge hand in teaching so many the basics of sop many things in a very creative way. Here is one of my all-timers, "Verb, That's What's Happening".
This week's Something to Listen To is another episode from the Mel Robbins podcast. Lots of great episodes here, hopefully this one can help you.
This week's Something to Read is an inspirational story about a colleague of mine during my days at ESPN (and probably more than a few of you in this community). Sarah Langs has been dealt a tough situation, but remains one of the true lights in the sports media industry. I wish we worked together more during my show producing days. Her passion for baseball and her overall positivity is amazing.
Here are the Top 10 job roles I saw this week, with the first 5 from our team at Paramount. The window is open for my team with CBS Sports in Stamford (our Fort Lauderdale office is also looking, so search away on the Paramount job board for those and a TON of other great roles with us).

Oklahoma State has this opportunity- worth looking into for the right creative!
