Around the Bases 12/28
Well, the year is coming to a close, I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend as we roll into 2025. Your support here means so much, and I'm looking forward to what we can all do together in the next year. We are on the doorstep of 1500 subscribers, and you have all played a huge part in our growth over the years. I'm really looking forward to what lies ahead.
I'll end the year with the same advice I give all the time- what do you want? This time of year, most of us are wondering what comes next. The answer lies within, and maybe the end of the year is the best time to listen to yourself. Lining up your purpose and actions is really the guideline to getting wherever you want. Go full steam ahead towards that goal and see what happens. The obstacles that are out there will fall by the wayside very easily when you are clear with your destination.
I have posted some amazing musical performances in this space from time to time, and this week's Something to Watch fits right in. The late Karen Carpenter is one of the best singers of anything ever, and this time of year you hear so many great holiday songs from the Carpenters. She is also one of the best drummers you will ever see. I was pretty blown away by her skills in an area I never could have imagined, and this got me energized to explore some new things I haven't done.
This week's Something to Read is a great look back at the life of Rickey Henderson, a baseball legend who passed away just before Christmas Day. A true one of one, and someone who was very aware of his own value. Howard Bryant's bio on Rickey is a must read for anyone who likes a good story, not just baseball fans.
Is the end of the year a busier time for you or just a continuation of your already too busy life. In the words of someone I follow "Busy is a decision" (you have to do the homework on who said that). This week's Something to Listen To is an episode from Derek Thompson and his podcast "Plain English". This might help you sort out your busy.
Here are the Top 10 jobs I saw this week, with the first 5 coming from our team at CBS Sports. I can get you right into the hiring process for those, and I may have a way or 2 into the others listed below. Please reach out to me here or email me at [email protected] for more info on any of the roles you see below.
Producers- I have a great colleague at my former employer and he is looking for an event Producer. Good opportunity worth looking into.
The calendar is about to flip, and with that comes some reflection about what we have done in the past year, and what lies ahead. If you are needing a little help getting your career goals in order and a strategy to find your way, we should talk. The sports media world is constantly shifting, with collaborations you would have never thought possible now right in front of your eyes. I have a ton of industry knowledge and experience to help plot your pathway to what you are looking for- be it a resume refresh, a content reel review, or advice on how to deal with the unknown that our business can bring. Please take a look at my website below and see how we can help each other. All you need to do is email me at [email protected] and set up a free consultation call.
Thanks again for your support here as we head into 2025. A quick shout out as always to those starting something new (you know who you are!). Have a safe New Years and see you next week!
Tom
