Around the Bases 1/12

Wishing everyone in the community here the best as we all kick off 2023! I hope the holiday season wasn't too crazy. I needed the week to get some new ideas rolling on the presentation here, please let me know what you think!

As I was going through my morning routine the other day, I noticed that I was trying to get through it a little quicker than usual by carrying as many things as possible to where they go in my house. Of course, I thought nothing of it until I dropped everything, making a decent sized mess. No biggie- I handled the cleanup easily enough, but once I has a sec, I realized I only have 2 hands, so what am I doing overloading myself just to get things in order a little faster. So as you go through your day doing the things you need to do, take a second for yourself and remember you can only carry so much and that overloading might not be the best plan.

This week's Something to Watch was probably seen by many of you, but I just had to post it this week. John Williams wrote an amazing score for the open of the Georgia/TCU game this past Monday, and a couple of my ex-colleagues (Martin Khodabakhshian and Mike Sciallis- great follows here on LinkedIn) produced this amazing piece.

This week's Something to Read is a biography from Eric Idle from the world famous Monty Python comedy group. I have been a fan of theirs since watching "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" at a drive-in in 1976 (my father took the family, and I was hooked once the rabbit took out a few of the Knights of the Round Table). Eric is a true free spirit and the book is worth your time.

This week's Something to Listen To is another episode from the Mel Robbins podcast. I was listening to a few podcasts this morning, and this intense episode basically shot me out of a cannon and I crushed the rest of my day. Lots of great episodes, but this one really stood out.

Here are the Top 10 roles I came across in the last week. The first one is the direct link to a role with our team at CBS Sports. Please DM me here or email me at [email protected] for more info on that and all of the other roles here, as I should be able to help you get the ball rolling as you explore what you are interested in.

Our team at BET has this great role available.

Paramount Plus has this marketing role.

I've got some good connections at WWE for those wanting to get a start there!

If you are kicking off the new year with a goal of finding a new opportunity or making the most out of your current situation, we should talk. I have the industry knowledge and over 25 years of advising and guiding media professionals in all kinds of ways. Feel free to visit my website below and check out the services I offer for those navigating their way through the sports media business. The consultation call is free- the return on the investment on yourself WILL pay off.

Lastly- a quick shout out to everyone in the community here starting a new role in 2023 (you know who you are!). Have a great weekend everyone- see you next week!

Always the best newsletter! I’ve really enjoyed Mel Robbins podcasts, too. She is very inspirational and explains a lot of complicated emotional situations in easy to understand ways.
