Around the Bases 10/31
Hello and Happy Halloween as I can't believe November is here already. I turned 28 again this week (getting good at it, as I have done it now for a number of years in a row), and wanted to thank everyone for your support here, as it means more than you could ever know.
The baseball season ended in a huge thud 2 nights ago for those of us rooting for the home team (or fans wanting more baseball), and it was a tough one, with "the little things" costing the Yankees big-time in the 5th inning. Little things are important, and to see the seasoned vets lose their focus on some easy plays was tough to process as the Dodgers rallied big time and eventually won. The lesson- pay attention to the little things, regardless of your experience level. The small wins you accrue add up and will lead you to some bigger things (Game 6 anyone?). From the Dodgers side, the lesson is never give in, as you never know when a break (or 3 of them) is gonna come your way, so when you get one, its full steam ahead and max it out and see what happens.
This week's Something to Watch is featuring someone I have had here in other sections, Jen Sincero . She has a few books out that I have read (worth checking out), and she is in this video podcast hosted by ANTHONY TRUCKS . Great stuff.
This week's Something to Read is coming out later this year, but it is available for pre-order and I'm sure it will be great. Mel Robbins has been featured here before (and will be again) has this coming out after Christmas. She has a few other books and content worth checking out in the meantime.
Kind of a double dip here for this week's Something to Listen To. Music has been on my mind of late, and I ran into this one while listening to Radio Margaritaville (great channel) the other day. Kacey Musgraves is a very cool artist, and her version of this Bob Marley classic really hit me as we head into a crazy weekend. I am posting her cover and the original if reggae is more your vibe (listen to both- your day will be better).
Here are the Top 10 Jobs I saw this week, with the first 5 coming from our team at CBS Sports. The first one is a great opportunity with the team I work with for an entry level graphics PA. You'll need some decent live control room experience firing live graphics to go along with some skills with Ross Expression. I can get you directly involved in the process for that and the other CBS roles, and may have a way or 2 into the others posted below. Please DM me here or email me at tom@stormers15media.com for more.
I earlier wrote about the importance of the little things and taking advantage of a break that comes your way. If you find yourself needing some coaching to help you through the process, we should talk. Little things like brushing up your resume or getting your reel in order to show the world are immediate areas where I can make an impact. My years of experience in the sports media business gives me a perspective few other career coaches can. Bigger things like strategy plotting your course is another specialty of mine, and I'd give any MLB manager a run for their money when it comes to coaching. Feel free to check out my website below and see how we can help each other. The consultation calls are free (I had a couple of great ones this week, so thank to those of you who reached out), and all you have to to do is DM me here or email me at tom@stormers15media.com for more.
Few journalists in our field loved baseball as much as the late great Pedro Gomez. I was lucky enough to meet him a few years back, and he was as genuine as anyone I have ever came across in my time in the business. His foundation is worth checking out. To the younger readers here, he is a guy you want to learn as much as you can about to learn a few things that will help you.
That's it for this week- a quick shout out before we go to those starting something new, be it a job opportunity or a decision you made that has been long overdue (you know who you are!). Have a great weekend!
Tom
