Around the Bases 10/12
Welcome back- hoping that everyone here is having a good fall so far. Your participation here each week means a lot and I'm glad that this is a place you can turn to when you need a boost of any kind. The climb to 1000 subscribers is in full swing- we are getting closer each week, so shout outs to all of you for spreading the word about the newsletter.
"You never know" is a phrase that is turned from time to time and I have experienced it quite a bit in my second act (and a lot recently). In the past 10 days, I reunited with 2 of my colleagues from my days at ESPN in very different roles. One was a PA that I worked with for a long time there, who is now thriving as a freelance replay operator for live studio shows, and the other was a CP I worked with very closely for years, who is now freelance producing with our Golazo Network. The 3 of us were swapping some stories last weekend, having a laugh or 2 over where we have all ended up after our time together before. I got to see first hand that there are paths out there for any of us- so pursue whatever leads you have as hard as you can- the next thing you never thought could happen is out there!
This week's Something to Watch comes from the NHL crew at ESPN. They produced this feature about one of the best guys I got to work with during my time there. It's officially hockey season now, but it won't be the same with Barry Melrose's retirement as he battles Parkinsons. Always willing to help out any show as he was needed on a big pucks night, and he really lit up a room when he came in (his laugh is EPIC). We'd always print out the feed list for him before he went into the green room to watch games. The piece does a great job, but you really had to be around him in person to truly understand he has given so much to so many.
This week's Something to Read is a best-seller from 2020 written by Greg McKeown (a great follow here) that may help you sort out things if you are feeling a little overwhelmed. I have battled this from time to time, and "Essentialism" can make a difference.
This week's Something to Listen To is an episode from "The Stacking Benjamins" podcast. Its been a little while since I put one of theirs here, and this one rang a decent bell with me. Joe Saul-Sehy is another great follow here.
Here are the Top 10 roles I saw this week. The full court press is on for our CBS Sports team as we are looking to fill a video and graphics producer position and I can get you right in the interview process. Our Golazo Network is also looking for all kinds of roles, so don't wait- get in touch with me here or at [email protected] for more info on those roles or a way in to the others posted below.
