Army Announces the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) System – NEXT Contract Award
The U.S. Army recently awarded the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) System – NEXT to Leidos, Inc. The contract is a firm fixed price Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) vehicle valued up to $249M and provides the full range of fielding support to ensure the system meets requirements.
AIE is currently employed at numerous Army installations within the United States.?The system is employed to execute security at installation perimeter entry points. It vets potential visitors against various national and local databases to determine whether an individual will be permitted access.?AIE may be calibrated to account for changes in force protection conditions (FPCON).?It can also conduct facial recognition, leveraging advancements in biometrics to accurately identify personnel to determine access eligibility. Typically, the AIE system is operated by Department of the Army Security Guards/Police or Military Police. The guards may also conduct visual inspections of vehicles when determining an individual’s access.
“These systems provide robust electronic physical access control (ePAC) for Army installations across the United States, while also enabling vehicle throughput to avoid traffic at installation gates,” said Lareina Adams, the Project Manager for Terrestrial Sensors. “With the current contract award, we will continue to conduct fieldings within the United States, as well as reaching beyond to our Pacific Command.”
The AIE program is managed by Project Manager Terrestrial Sensors (PM TS) and its subordinate product management office, Product Manager Force Protection Systems (PM FPS).
