Aristotle on Leadership
Dr. Elaine R.
As my life becomes calmer, more joyful, and healthier I encourage you to join with me to explore what you want in life and how to achieve what you want. I'd love to chat, explore, & guide you to a healthy, happy life.
I think we can likely go back to the beginning of time and find leaders. Leaders come in numerous forms. We find some leaders good, others not good. Some leaders are downright bad people. I don’t want to think of them now, we want to learn to be good leaders. We want to work with good to great leaders. I found works from Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
Aristotle’s 11 Habits caught my attention, and these are habits worthy of us learning today. ??
Whilst little of his writings have survived the centuries, they provide great insights of leadership which are relevant today. Some of Aristotle’s thoughts include:
1.??“He who cannot be a good follower cannot be a good leader.”
2.??“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.”
3.??“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.”
4.??“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.”
5.??“Liars when they speak the truth are not believed.”
6.??“Tolerance and apathy are the last virtues of a dying society.”
7.??“To run away from trouble is a form of cowardice and, while it is true that the suicide braves death, he does it not for some noble object but to escape some ill.”
8.??“Happiness belongs to the self-sufficient.”
9.??“There is no great genius without a mixture of madness.”
10?. ??“Those that know, do. Those that understand, teach.”
11?. ??“You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality of the mind next to honour.”
I have not included any interpretation of these habits. I leave that to you. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

2 年I've never seen this list Dr. Elaine R. Amazing how many of these ancient ideas are still so relevant. This particular one is most pertinent for me today “To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.” To me, this is surely a reminder to take courage and get out of that cozy safe comfort zone and learn to tolerate the hecklers in the cheap seats ??
