ARHAI publishes its latest annual report

Antimicrobial Resistance & Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland has today (19 September) published its fourteenth annual report, the second since NHS Scotland Assure launched in 2021.

Here we share three facts about our National ARHAI service to bring to life this highly specialised (often under the radar) important service in helping reduce the burden of infection and antimicrobial resistance within Scottish health and care settings.

1.?????? There are around 70 multidisciplinary professionals working within ARHAI Scotland. This includes Healthcare Scientists, Data Specialists, Infection Control Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical Microbiologists, Administrators and Programme & Project Managers. Together, they lead on Scotland’s surveillance, monitoring, and coordination of national Infection Prevention Control (IPC) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) programmes.

2.?????? ARHAI is the author of Scotland’s National Infection and Prevention Control Manual (NIPCM) – the trusted ‘go to’ guide for health professionals covering a wide range of IPC related guidance. The NIPCM is an evidence-based practice guide which covers a wide range of guidance from the right PPE for the right setting, to management of decontamination within each specialist healthcare environment. It is intended for use by all those involved in care provision within Scotland and helps reduce the risk of Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) and ensure the safety of those in the care environment.

3.?????? A significant part of ARHAI’s work is about enabling good professional practice. Over the last year, ARHAI – in partnership with NES – has been evolving and growing the education and training resources around IPC to support improving people’s health and care outcomes through a competent, confident and skilled workforce. All IPC education resources and support materials are shaped by research, innovation and user experience and are available on Turas Learn in the?IPC Zone.

The annual ARHAI report 2022/23, is now published and available to view via the NSS website.
