Arguing with Charles Shultz / Snoopy's Creator

Arguing with Charles Shultz / Snoopy's Creator

Howdy,

When I was 27 and getting my undergraduate degree on top of my courses I ran a small house painting company and was the business manager of “the Star” (the college newspaper).?

At one point I was dating a woman that invited me to an interesting event; a Halloween wedding!? To make it more interesting the Charles Shultz, the inventor of the famous Peanuts/ Charlie Brown Cartoon. ??

Anyway, since she was a bridesmaid she had to go to the rehearsal dinner and invited me along.? As you might have guessed from the beginning of this story, I was quite busy and, somehow, forgot that Charles Shultz was at all involved.?

So at the rehearsal dinner I sat down between an elderly couple.? His name was “Sparky” and his wife’s was Jean.?? We were making polite conversation and they asked what I did.? When I mentioned I was the business manager of the Star Sparky asked what I’d do when I got an article sent to the editor that I didn’t agree with.?? I informed him that was the “Editor in Chief’s” decision but personally I’d publish it and write my best counter-argument to it.

Sparky disagreed with me and told me he’d “tear it up and burn it” never letting it see the light of day.?? Sparky and I kept discussing this when Jean mentioned “Oh, the Star, yeah, the contacted me a couple of weeks back”.??? I literally said “why would our college newspaper contact you?” and she replied “It was for the donation we made…”

Oh, that would be the 5-million dollar donation to our library!

Suddenly it all came back to me that “Sparky” was Charles Shultz and that I’d been arguing with one of the best known comics on the planet!

Had I remembered who he was before we began our debate I’m pretty sure I would have been a bit more timid.? But, since I’d already made my position clear, I decided to stick with it and keep up the debate.

The main point of this is Context matters: When a noob suggests something I take it with a grain of salt.? When Isaias, our main instructor of our AutoHotkey courses, I’m much more careful to listen to his advice.? Isaias is so good we offer a 200% money back guarantee on all our courses!

So remember, you should weight the input differently depending on the source!
