Arena Review #20 - The Palestra - Philadelphia, PA
The Palestra is the Quakers' Home Arena for Men's Basketball and is located in Philadelphia, PA. The venue seats 8,725 and opened in 1927. Since its inception, the Palestra has hosted more games, more visiting teams, and more NCAA tournaments than any other facility in college basketball. It is often called "the birthplace of college basketball." The Palestra is a great medium-sized venue to take in a Division 1 College Basketball game. The crowd was ecstatic Saturday night as the Pennsylvania Quakers hosted the Cornell Big Red in an Ivy League Conference game. The Quakers and Big Red traded baskets the entire game with the Quakers pulling away late to win by the final score of 92-86. The Quakers' Jordan Dingle had 27 points and 7 rebounds while the Big Red's Greg Dolan had 29 points and 5 rebounds in the defeat.
I would highly recommend visiting The Palestra if you are ever in Philadelphia, PA and are looking to take in a high quality Division 1 Basketball game as The Palestra is a great venue. Every seat at The Palestra has you up close to the action on the court and there isn't a bad seat to be had. I will give The Palestra 5 out of 5 stars as the medium-sized venue was electric and the fans were very passionate and engaged as well. I am looking forward to visiting several Arenas in Philadelphia, PA next weekend. Until then.
