IT Arena 2024: Shaping Ukraine’s Future Through GovTech and Digital Innovation

I just got back from the IT Arena conference, and it was an awesome experience! The event was packed with great talks, inspiring speakers, and tons of opportunities to connect with amazing people. Huge shout-out to the organizers for pulling it all together!

One of the standout sessions for me was called "Building Innovative GovTech Products That Go Global." It was all about how Ukraine is creating tech solutions for government use, thanks to support from USAID and their Digital Transformation Activity program. This project is all about helping Ukraine rebuild and modernize its digital services, with the help of funding from the U.S.

What’s the DTA All About?

The DTA is a big project, backed by $150 million over five years (2023–2028), and it's focused on making sure Ukraine’s digital services are transparent, efficient, and ready for future growth. They’re working with partners like the Ministry of Digital Transformation to make it happen.

Danylo Molchanov from the DTA talked about how they’re looking for IT companies to join them in building these tech solutions. It's a huge opportunity for service companies to get involved in shaping the future of Ukraine's digital government.

The Diia Platform: A Star of Digital Innovation

The event also spotlighted Diia , Ukraine’s cutting-edge digital platform that’s becoming a global example of how governments can use tech to better serve their people.

Some cool things about Diia:

- The Diia App: An all-in-one app for government services.

- Diia.Business : A platform to help entrepreneurs.

- Diia.Open Data: Making government data accessible for everyone.

- Diia.City : A hub for digital services for cities.

- Diia.Education : Online learning for anyone looking to upskill.

Seeing Diia in action was a great reminder of how Ukraine is leading the way when it comes to tech and government working together.

Tech for Better Cities

Another interesting talk came from Oleksandr Honcharenko from the Eurasia Foundation , who discussed how technology is transforming urban planning in Ukraine. They’ve digitized over 5 million documents related to construction, which has helped make city management more transparent and less prone to corruption.

Streamlining Transportation

Anastas Boiko from DTA gave a great presentation on how Ukraine’s transportation sector is going digital too. New systems like eQueue for border crossings and e-TTN (an electronic consignment note) are making everything smoother and more efficient, both for businesses and for the government.

Prozorro team

Mykola Tkachenko and Oleksandr Vinnytskyi from the Prozorro team delivered a very insightful presentation, where they discussed the opportunities for service companies to collaborate with Prozorro. They highlighted the benefits of accessing a unique GovTech market, the opportunity to participate in large-scale projects, receiving support from an experienced team at every stage, and noted that donor funding, rather than state funding, will cover the work.

Open Data

Nadiia Konashchuk (Open Data Lead, Digital Transformation Activity, Eurasia Foundation) gave a presentation about Open Data Tech and the use of open data in business, scientific, and civic activities to drive the country's development.

Looking Ahead

The IT Arena showed just how far Ukraine has come in the tech world. It was really inspiring to see how projects like Diia and USAID’s DTA are leading the way toward recovery and growth. For anyone working in tech, there are tons of chances to partner up with programs like DTA and help build the future of Ukraine.

Overall, I left the conference feeling really hopeful about the future of tech in Ukraine. We’re not just building for today—we’re building for a better, smarter, more connected tomorrow.
