Area's biggest tech employer plans more cuts

Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. It's been a busy few days for the local business community, with headlines involving planned job cuts, leadership changes and — on a lighter note — bowling.

Let's kick things off with some news about the Sacramento area's largest tech industry employer.

英特尔 is cutting another 62 employees at its Folsom Campus at the end of this month, its third series of cuts in five months.

The recent cuts, reported to state employment officials, are in addition to more than 340 cuts by Intel in January and March. Read more

More changes for remodeled retail centers

Attention, local shoppers: We have two big stories involving remodeled retail centers in the Sacramento area.

First up: The transformation of a Granite Bay retail center has taken a big step forward, with the planned addition of a major fitness chain.

Planet Fitness will fill a large space in the redeveloped Marketplace at Granite Bay, a Raley's-anchored center at Douglas Boulevard and Auburn Folsom Road. Read more

Also: Two more tenants might be joining a remodeled retail center in Carmichael.

Leasing materials for Carmichael's Crestview Village show 810 Billiards & Bowling as a planned business in the center, which is?at 4708-4794 Manzanita Ave. In addition, Sacramento County records suggest discount retailer Five Below has taken a step toward opening a store in Crestview Village. Notable local land sale

An owner of commercial properties in Johnston Business Park in Sacramento took its own step to address neighboring encampments of unhoused people earlier this year: buying the land under them.

Kristie Kuechler , vice president of asset management with Campbell-based Dan Caputo Co. , said the firm three months ago bought a ribbon of land along the bottom of the levee to the south of Lathrop Way.

"For us, it was a safety issue," she said, describing how a recreational vehicle blew up in the encampment before the purchase, among other issues. "Women didn't want to walk to their cars at night." Read more

The school recently announced it's named? Dr. Lisa Cardoza ?as president, pending approval by the Los Rios Community College District Board of Trustees. Cardoza is currently a fundraising executive at California State University-Sacramento . Read more

Also: The Placer County-based film production company Robert Craig Films LLC has named veteran nonprofit executive Jennifer Stolo ?as its new CEO.

Stolo, who previously led the local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation for a decade, will work with nonprofit groups as part of her new position at the film company that has a social mission. Read more

Also: The California Mobility Center is seeking a new CEO to bootstrap the effort to build a statewide center in Sacramento around the zero-carbon transportation sector of the future, just months after it hired its first CEO. Read more
