Architectural glass that mesmerize.

NASA led the way for Dichroic Glass??
Dichroic glass?started with a little concoction of?gold and silver.
That's right; a dash of our favorite precious metals to amp up interest, engagement and aesthetics with a touch of mystery. It has been quoted in?Architizer.com?that NASA revitalized the production of Dichroic Glass as a protection mechanism for astronauts.?Since ordinary clear materials are unable to protect both humans and spacecrafts from the harsh rays of unfiltered sunlight, Dichroic Glass was used as an effective barrier against harsh radiation. One small step for man... and a massive impact for the architectural design sector.?
?The application of colored and optical glass in architecture is important for creating spatial dynamics and uniqueness of space. Dichroic Glass is a type of glass which causes the glass surface to change in color depending on the viewing angle.
The color of the glass will create an effect based on the?different wavelengths of light passing through or bouncing off the glass surface, creating different effects of color refraction.?Light Gate,?the public art piece pictured above was unveiled as a 'refresh' of the popular Light Gate sculpture, located at the intersection of 14th street and Highland Avenue at Manhattan Beach California. The refresh was to address the original fused glass that had started to fade. Interested in the innovation happening in the glass sector, Goldray Glass was able to work with the artist to bring the dancing lights back to the beach. More details of this project can be found at?City of Manhattan Beach website?and at?Goldray Glass.com
Dichroic fins add?a dramatic touch to skyscrapers.
Created effects provide different possibilities in the design of buildings and improvements in the aesthetic quality of a space. The application of colored Dichroic Glass in architecture combined with modern?technologies and materials such as steel, concrete, aluminum and other materials, makes it?one of the most important materials in architecture.?
The project featured below is the Loma Linda University Medical Centre.?NBBJ Architecture?designed the interior space with a focus on resiliency. It can flex from low to high acuity to accommodate complex future scenarios from pandemics to mass casualty events—and features unique structural elements that help guard against earthquakes. The message of compassion, warmth and innovation was also illustrated on the outside of the building. Informed by the angle of the sun, the incorporated Dichroic Glass fins add?visual dynamism by casting shadows throughout the day, of varying sizes, colors and intensities, resulting in a dynamic, ever-changing fa?ade. Congratulations to?Tower Glass?for doing an amazing job on this instillation.?

CONGRATULATIONS?IIDA Awards Winner?for Public Spaces & Commercial Lobbies?goes to?OMA and Gruen Associates for the Audrey Irmas Pavilion, Los Angeles CA.Led by partner Shohei Shigematsu with associate Jake Forster, OMA won the competition. The architects basically created a 54,000 square-foot, five-story object building that, from some angles, looks like a truncated pyramid warped in a distortional field.

Goldray’s glass was installed by Steel City Glass alongside MATT Construction, as interior partitions within the Diane & Guilford Glazer Chapel, and as insulated glass units within the West Terrace. The green glass features solid color transparent interlayers combined with a metal mesh interlayer for a unique, calming, and eye-catching look.
