Occasionally called “free renaissance”, riginating during the reign of - you guessed it - Queen Anne in the very early 1700s, Queen Anne enjoyed a resurgence from 1880-1915.
An incredibly striking design that could be called “gingerbread castles”, this style features highly asymmetrical exteriors and excessively ornate trim (I’d hate to paint one). They’re known for towers, turrets, wraparound porches, steeply pitched roofs, often boasting stained glass and multiple paint colors. They may be 3 levels.
Inside often features multiple living spaces (size permitting), intricate wood trim, fireplaces with glazed tile, elaborate wooden staircases, and rooms that connect with one another as opposed to being separated by a hallway.
