Architects Market Update - Strategic Hiring or just thinking it over.....
I decided to write a market update and as I have in the past, I was going to write a post about all the fantastic projects happening at the moment.
Circular Quay redevelopments, NSW Government spend on education, Light rail and infrastructure projects, but you know all that.
And the market is still candidate driven and there are more roles on with clients than candidates to fill them.
But what we are seeing are clients become more considered in their decision making, but are we truly being strategic in our hiring??
So what is strategic hiring…….
Well it starts with finding people who not only have technical skills or Revit or Archicad, but Architects who share the same values as your organisation.
It starts with thinking long term about a role, what I want this person to be doing in 12 months and then reverse engineering backwards.
Create outcomes and goals for the person hired for 90 days, 180 days and 360 days into the role.
If you offer career progression, then discuss how people can progress, how goals can be agreed, targets reached and progression made.
Talk it about in the interview. Why not even point out someone in the team, who has made great strides, it’s not a story its real.
And like I said at the beginning, it’s still a candidate driven market, so what is the why?
Why do your people like coming in every day and working in your team.
No don’t assume, go ask, and craft the message, and let it resonate throughout the entire hiring process.
These are just a few of my thoughts on the subject.
