I recently passed the Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO I) exam with a 97% score, and I've received a lot of messages from people asking me about the exam details and how to prepare for it. So, here are some tips:

1?? Read and understand the Scrum Guide:

While not particularly long, every word in each sentence was individually selected and is essential to get the meaning.

So do not underestimate the Scrum guide just by the number of pages and give it your full and undivided attention.

2?? You have to get perfect scores several times at all scrum.org open assessments, Consider these:

  • Scrum Open: Link
  • Product Owner Open: Link
  • Product Owner Practice Test: Link
  • Scrum Master Practice Test: Link

Avoid taking exams from random websites:

  • Questions may not align with the latest Scrum Guide 2020 updates.
  • Incorrect answers on these sites can create confusion, leaving you uncertain about the correct answer.

3?? I highly recommend the “Introduction Agile & Scrum for Product Owners” Course by Valentin Despa

This course covers all of the material that you need to know for the exam. Especially practice tests and other resources to help you prepare.

Course Link: Udemy Link.

4?? You have to get familiar with all words in the Scrum Glossary: https://www.scrum.org/resources/scrum-glossary?

5?? You may find points related to scaled scrum?

The most important rule you need to remember:

1 Product = 1 Product Backlog = 1 Product Owner

6?? Make sure you have?read the EBM Guide at least 3 times, including the Appendix. Typically, only 1-2 questions in the exam are related to the EBM Guide.

Focus on the four Key Value Areas (KVAs):

  • Current Value (CV)
  • Time-to-Market (T2M)
  • Ability to Innovate (A2I)
  • Unrealized Value (UV)

Pay attention:

  • Some of the questions that you will encounter are trick questions, which are designed to trick you into selecting the wrong answer.
  • So it's important that you always read the question and all the answers carefully.
  • Look out for words like "not" "may" "must" "can" because they can really change the meaning of the question.
  • Check how many answers are required and select only the number indicated.
  • Never assume that you already know which one is the answer because you've seen the question previously or the answer is similar to what you have read in the Scrum guide.
  • Expect that in the exam you'll have questions with multiple answers, but a question doesn't indicate how many answers are correct. So you'll need to figure that out on your own. “Use the elimination process by eliminating the wrong answers”.

And typically the exam is not easy, but it's definitely passable if you've prepared well.

I hope it’s valuable to you, Feel free to reach out for any questions on the exam, Scrum, or getting ready for it. I'm always happy to help however I can!
