Our staff had a great day at the ASAE Annual Meeting! We’re challenging ourselves to see disruption as an opportunity to more creatively serve our members. We’re bringing a lot of inspiration back to the office with us!
A little note from our Director of Government Affairs,? Alysia Ryan, J.D. ?on her wonderful experience at the ASAE Annual Meeting last week!
This week, I attended the 2022 ASAE conference. It was a wonderful experience to learn and think critically with my colleagues and other association professionals. I felt compelled to share specifically about the keynote address and the impact of his message.
Local, self-taught successful Nashville entrepreneur? Marcus Whitney ?left me inspired and reflective. I was impressed with how enthusiastically he described his pursuit for a life he loved while never forgetting that supporting his family was most important. Marcus dropped out of college, taught himself about software and is a founding partner of Jumpstart Health Investors, the most active early-stage healthcare venture capital firm in the U.S. He also heads up Jumpstart Nova, the first venture fund in the U.S. investing in black founded and led startups. He also co-founded the Nashville Soccer Club, a huge success he initially had no idea how to accomplish.
I was inspired by his authenticity, humility, and gratitude. He referenced the Hero’s Cycle and reminded us all that obstacles and hard times are necessary and essential to undertaking a goal. He also said that when you achieve it, take a step back and recognize where you are in your journey. He encouraged everyone to set HUGE goals. He stressed that we all have unique abilities, talents and, as a result, unique power. How we use that power is up to us; reflect on your story and the really big goals you want to accomplish and go after it.
On a side note, afterward I got to meet Marcus and he was just as nice and humble as he appeared on stage. Well done,? ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership .?#ASAE22?was a great success!
