An aquaculture project that’s backed by a Nobel Peace Prize winner

Given his rise to prominence in Bangladeshi politics, where he was asked to lead the interim government after Sheik Hasina fled the country, Muhammad Yunus is much in demand. But thankfully, Yunus – who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his pioneering approach to microfinance – had already helped to set up a social seaweed growing project in Thailand: a project which is now starting to bear fruit. While the scale of each container-based “farm” is decidedly micro, the recently completed pilot suggests that the impact on low-income communities in Thailand could be considerable. Here’s hoping that the non-profit’s project can be effectively rolled out by its co-founder, Callum Mackenzie and the rest of the team. — Rob Fletcher, Senior editor
