??My latest learning: It′s not only okay to ask for help, it's necessary!

When I talk to people, I always find that many of them are unhappy in their jobs but don't do anything about it.

Most of them are already thinking about how they can find a job that really suits them. But then - nothing happens.

What stops people from making a career change?

I hear this relatively often:

?? The security of their current job

?? They don't know what they want to do

?? They are afraid of something new

?? They think they won't make it

I don't want to minimize these concerns. But considering that we spend around a third of our lives at work, it's worth making the most of it. I'm convinced that it's not the time, the work, the knowledge or even the skill development that's stopping you from being happy at work. It's the fact that most people never ask for help.

You don't have to have everything under control. And you don't have to know everything either.

Yet, so many of us think we need to know the answers to questions that might arise at some point.

Does that make sense to you? Surely not.

It's okay to say: "I don't know".

It's not only okay to ask for help; it's necessary! You don't need to know everything to be successful; you just need to learn to ask others for help.

In 2007, I asked for help as I was pregnant with a child under two and about to take my next career step. I am very glad I made that decision as I am still leading my life based on the principles established back then.

In 2016, I asked for help because I wanted to adjust my career path. I am very glad I made that decision, as I still use the leadership principles established then.

In 2020, I asked for help because I wanted to know how to grow as a part-time career and leadership coach, and I am very glad I made that decision. This is why I am writing to you today.

It's not only okay to ask for help; it's necessary! You don't need to know everything to be successful; you just need to learn to ask others for help.

?? Career Inspiration: Modeling of Excellence.

What is the fastest and most effective way to learn new skills? There are 3 magic words:

Modeling of Excellence.

It's a simple idea with a big impact: Learn from those who have done and achieved what you want.

So, if you want to learn something new, don't start by looking for popular books or big influencers - ask four questions:

  1. What is your goal?
  2. Which company or person has already achieved your goal?
  3. What are that person's principles and beliefs?
  4. What are the resources this person used to acquire the knowledge?

Modeling of excellence means analyzing what the best people do. And using their practices as a foundation. That way, you can learn almost anything faster.

Do you already have a role model? Who is there where you want to be?

Connect with this person and ask the questions, learn, and grow.

??Female Leadership: ?Visibility for women in leadership roles is essential

In today's business world, qualified employees and innovation are key elements of success. People drive people; therefore, leaders' visibility is a key differentiator. The visibility of women, in particular, is becoming more important as diversity and values are highly valued by employees.

The younger generations particularly value commitment to diversity and an inclusive culture. Among 18-—to 34-year-olds, they are two times more likely to apply for a job if they can publicly observe diversity.

However, many women are reluctant to put themselves in the spotlight.

There are many reasons for this: a strong focus on the substance and content of their work and, a fear of negative feedback or conflict, self-doubt about their own competence. At the same time, nine out of ten women see self-doubt about their competence as one of the main reasons for the inequality of women at the management level. So, the problem is known. Studies also show a major difference when it comes to marketing their own success: 80% of women rate the marketing of their own success as too low.

Competence and substance are prerequisites, but they are by no means sufficient criteria for success at work. Success at work requires more than good work; it is also about being noticed.

The fact is: It is not the best who are promoted, but those who are best perceived.

The formula for success is performance, image, and visibility. Do you know what you stand for? What do you want people to say about you when you are not in the room?
