April Round-up
Welcome to our latest company newsletter, where we update you on all things Inivos. We look at events we've attended, share insights from our podcast series, highlight team updates and customer successes, and provide valuable information on infection prevention and control.
Events:
Exhibition season is well and truly under way. We’ve been attending events up and down the country including DECON UK, and the IPC Conference. It’s been great to see so many familiar faces and make some new connections along the way. As ever, there were some really thought provoking talks on the latest news and developments within the IP&C world.
We are looking forward to attending various regional events over the summer and of course, the annual IPS conference in October. Which events are you attending this year? Let us know in the comments below.
Latest Podcast:
For the third episode in our series, Infection Control Experts in Conversation, we sat down with our host and got to know Liz Waters MBE MSc RN a little better. She shared some fascinating insights and we particularly enjoyed hearing her fondest memory from her time in the NHS, which involved a whole ward of middle aged men singing the theme music from The Dam Busters!

Back at the start of the month, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust invested in a fleet of our ProXcide , HPV decontamination machines. 14 new devices were delivered to the St James site where they will be used to help minimise healthcare associated infections in high risk areas.
Dean Legg, Head of Facilities at LTHT, said: "We know that the highest level of cleanliness creates the foundation for high-quality patient care, facilitates patient recovery and contributes towards the prevention, control and spread of HCAI. The ProXcide will not only enhance the cleaning service, it is also remote controlled to ensure operator safety and provides a validation report at the end of each cycle. This means we can be confident that decontaminated areas are safe for patients."
We have a longstanding relationship with the Trust and are delighted to continue this with the investment in cutting-edge technology that delivers safe, consistant and validated processes to help reduce HCAI’s and ensure patient safety. ?

Overcoming day-to-day IP&C Challenges: Ownership, Influence & Leadership
The next topic we covered in our mini-series of day-to-day IP&C challenges describes some of the key strategic components senior leaders need to consider when heading up an IP&C service. It also provides an opportunity to assess your service and to establish whether IP&C is fully embedded across your organisation with executive teams, divisions, directorates and clinical boards taking full responsibility for their infection control standards.
"It is well documented that Board to Ward (and beyond) engagement and ownership is a crucial element of any infection control strategy. Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI) harms patients and every healthcare organisation has an absolute responsibility to minimise cross infection risk. But what does ownership look like? It is certainly not the sole responsibility of the IP&C team!...”

Our teams across the country have been busy carrying out deep cleaning and decontamination processes at all hours of the day. We’ve seen a rise in reports of C.diff, CPE and MRSA. Thank you to our technicians for your hard work in carrying out essential decontamination processes to enable hospitals to reopen treatment spaces following an infection outbreak.
With C. difficile still lurking in our hospitals, it’s important IP&C teams take the necessary steps to prevent an outbreak. A proactive strategy will keep patients safe and bed capacity operating at its optimum level, but a reactive strategy is also important in preparation for outbreaks and subsequent bed closures.
IP&C teams are familiar with the C. difficile bundle (contact precautions, hand washing, environmental cleaning, laboratory alerts and staff education) and it is a sound framework to base a C. difficile strategy which we explore: https://bit.ly/3YUziuW
