This month we start with a foreword from Mark Porter , Big Issue Invest Chair.

“Welcome to our April Newsletter, I wanted to open with few remarks on an event we held in the House of Lords last month. The event ‘Beyond Profit: Harnessing Insurance and Pension Investments for Social Impact’ brought together a diverse set of expertise from the Pension and Insurance sectors. During the evening, we discussed the critical nature of social investment allocation in these sectors. I’d like to thank Aspen Insurance Group , our event sponsors, and all the panelists and guests who made it such a brilliant event.”?

Taking Social Impact Investment to the House of Lords?

Our inspiring event in the House of Lords championed the cause for impact investment in the Pension and Insurance sectors. The event included a panel discussing the power of pairing social impact and competitive financial returns within the sectors. The panel included Aileen Mathieson : Group CIO, Aspen, Charlotte O'Leary : CEO, Pensions for Purpose and Linda Zuberi : Head of Responsible Investment, Beazley , and was moderated Jamie Broderick : Deputy Chair, Impact Investing Institute . ?

Our Power Up London Accelerator Programme is underway!?

The second cohort of our programme, funded by the government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, went live last week. We have 20 budding early-stage organisations signed-up and 34 mentors ready to impart their knowledge and experience, and help these organisations grow. We’ll share updates from the mentors and applicants as the programme progresses. ?

New Investee News! ?

Our Growth Impact Fund (GIF) announced another new investee in April. Living in Fitness received a £55,000 investment to enable more people aged 60+ to stay fit.? ? The investment makes it the eighth organisation to receive investment from the fund and the first investee to have gone through the Technical Assistance (TA) programme. The programme supports underserved entrepreneurs to increase capacity through grant funding and Living in Fitness benefited from £15,000 through the initiative.?

Living in Fitness CEO, Carl Davis said “My personal connection with exclusion from spaces and lack of representation compelled me to make a difference for older adults who want to become more active.”?
