Hangley Aronchick Yale Law School alumni recently attended the school's Bicentennial Celebration at the National Constitution Center. Attorneys Robert Wiygul (YLS ’08), Tom Brown (YLS ’15), Kyle Victor (YLS ’18) and Michael Masciandaro (YLS ’19) were there to commemorate the law school’s 200th anniversary.

We had a great time at the Support Center for Child Advocates 's Annual Benefit, where the organization acknowledged the extraordinary efforts of individuals devoted to their mission.

For over a decade, Hangley Aronchick has supported the Support Center for Child Advocates, a nonprofit organization that serves children who have experienced abuse or neglect by securing social services, finding alternative homes, and helping them testify in court. The firm has raised money for the organization through its annual 5K event and annual gala, and Hangley Aronchick attorneys have represented a number of children fleeing abusive homes, helping them to get permanent legal custody with other parents.

Shareholder and environmental law leader Steven Miano recently attended the American Bar Association 's Environment, Energy, and Resources Section's 53rd Spring Conference, where he served as a panelist for the "Walking on... Water? Wetland Regulation in the Wake of Sackett" discussion.

Panelists examined the current landscape of wetland regulation and protection at the federal, state and local levels and what the future might look like. They also provided practice tools for attendees to navigate changing and unclear waters.

Steve moderated a different panel providing a “Water Law Update” at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute ’s Environmental Law Forum. Experienced water law practitioners discussed major developments, including CWA Jurisdiction (WOTUS) and related litigation, stormwater regulation, Chesapeake Bay issues, PFOS regulation, regulation of groundwater, energy-related water issues, and other regulatory and litigation developments.

Steve also spoke with Bloomberg Law about the impact of ongoing litigation in the wake of Sackett v. EPA, a 2023 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that curtailed federal protections for wetlands under the Clean Water Act.

This year, in celebration of Hangley Aronchick's 30th anniversary, we are running two social media campaigns, 30 Years of Impact and 30 Acts of Service.

30 Years of Impact

Our 30 Years of Impact series is an ongoing reflection on meaningful cases for our firm and the greater community.

Following Pennsylvania's primary election, we recall the victory on behalf of Pennsylvania Department of State officials?in federal-court litigation challenging the Department’s certification of an electronic voting machine used by several Pennsylvania counties, including Philadelphia. Philadelphia joined the Department in opposing the plaintiffs’ effort to decertify the machine. After a multi-day evidentiary hearing, which included Hangley Aronchick’s cross-examination of the opposing parties’ expert and a demonstration of the machine’s operation and security measures, the District Court denied the plaintiff’s motion for decertification, finding that the voting machine had strong security features, was easy to use, and produced a voter-verifiable paper record of each vote cast, which allows for robust auditing of election results. Read more about the case here.

30 Acts of Service

We also celebrate 30 years of giving back to the community. We are committed to supporting causes that are important to us, through pro bono work, volunteerism, and board service.

Dozens of Hangley Aronchick attorneys have served on nonprofit boards, supporting numerous nonprofit organizations. The Philadelphia Bar Association 's Board Observer program provides young lawyers with the opportunity to volunteer and serve as an observer on a nonprofit board of Directors. Currently, associate Kyle Victor serves as a board observer for the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania , a nonprofit that provides free legal services to residents of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey who are living with HIV or vulnerable to acquiring HIV.

We also congratulate the Defender Association of Philadelphia on its 90th anniversary. Hangley Aronchick is proud to support this nonprofit that provides high-quality, client-centered legal representation, courtroom advocacy, and a connection to social services. We enjoyed celebrating as a sponsor at the 90th Anniversary Gala at the Constitution Center.
