April Newsletter
Gordon MacLelland
CEO at Working with Parents in Sport (WWPIS) - 'Supporting organisations, coaches, parents and children to work effectively together to help young people fulfil their potential both in and out of their sport.'
Dear Subscriber,
We hope this edition of the newsletter finds you well and you have enjoyed the Easter period.
This month has been a busy one, with a large number of face to face and virtual sessions being delivered across a range of sports including football, gymnastics, baseball and sailing.
It is also the period where we renew our annual work with a number of sporting organisations and we are delighted to announce that we will be continuing to work with all of our existing clients in the next 12 months, a wonderful reflection on the quality of work that has been produced by the team.
As well as renewals with our existing clients we are delighted to announce new partnerships with a number of new gymnastics clubs, British Shooting and Netball Scotland this month. There is more to announce in the coming weeks as we look to finalise programmes with some incredible sporting organisations, so watch this space.
With some of our work we are also bound by confidentiality and how we work with sporting organisations in terms of what we can announce and publicise. We are working across a number of sporting environments as well as the ones that are out in the public domain which is both exciting and frustrating. Exciting that our work is in such demand, but also frustrating that we cannot share it with you.
The Parents in Sport podcast this month saw us joined by Michelin starred chef and sports parent Tom Kitchin. We discussed high performance and his sports parenting journey with his four children. This is an episode you will not want to miss.
In our ‘Meet the Parent’ series we were joined by Sports advisor for UK Sport and sports parent David Meli. It was great to welcome David on the show to discuss his sports parenting journey to date with his children, particularly his son Aiden who is currently exploring the US college route.
If you have not done so already we urge you to check out our new and refreshed company brochures as well as annual memberships.
We have created an NGB brochure, General Brochure(for clubs and sporting organisations) and Schools Brochure to reflect the services that we provide to meet the needs and requirements of each of these sectors.
You can find out more about all of these items in this month’s newsletter.
BRITISH SHOOTING PARTNERSHIP
Working with Parents in Sport are delighted to announce a new partnership with British Shooting.
The first stage of the partnership will see the launch of the ‘Sports Performance Parenting’ programme with sessions already in the diary for parents over the next couple of months.
Throughout the next year there will be a series of workshops and webinars delivered across the shooting pathway programme as well as the development of further support as both parties work together to maximise the benefits of the partnership.

BRITISH SAILING PARTNERSHIP
After renewing our contract with British Sailing it was great to be in Portland once again at the home of British Sailing to deliver live sessions for parents at the British Championships.
Our visit this time saw us deliver to parents around ‘Managing Disappointment and Avoiding Devastation’ as well as running an informal drop in afternoon for parents. This was really impactful and will help us to tailor our future support as effectively as possible.
All of our program with British Sailing is bound together by all parents and coaches being given access to a customised WWPIS/British Sailing Platform.
We look forward to working together to make sure the next 12 months are as impactful as possible for coaches, parents and young athletes.
CUSTOMISED WEBSITE PLATFORMS
Alongside our live and virtual sessions we are seeing an increased demand for customised WWPIS platforms.
We have just finished designing platforms for Netball Scotland and Badminton England.
This month saw us add more exclusive content for our membership including ‘Using nutrition to promote recovery’ and Meet the Parents with David Meli.?
These platforms give organisations the opportunity to resource entire communities in a cost effective, sustainable way. Many organisations use the content within their own social media channels, team and parent meetings and regular newsletters to help support those within their communities.
The added bonus is that organisations are also able to add some of their own content to the platform, which certainly helps in bringing it all to life.?
If you would like to find out more about customised platforms then email us at [email protected].
TRUE ATHLETE PROJECT
I
t was fantastic to work once again this month with the The True Athlete Project delivering a session for the parents of the mentees on their programmes.
It is always superbly supported and with so many parents at different stages of the sporting journey along with the wide variety of sports involved, it undoubtedly enhances the experience for all those who attend.
Always, one of the highlights of the year!
We look forward to working again in the future providing support in this much needed space.
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS
领英推荐
It is great to have onboard a large number of annual members here at WWPIS and we have been tasked with creating badges for organisations to put on their own websites/platforms to show our working partnership together.
This model has proved hugely successful across the world in 2023 for National Governing Bodies, Sporting Organisations, Clubs and Schools.
The benefits of an Annual Membership include ongoing consultancy and an opportunity to really embed continued support within existing programmes as opposed to one hit wonders which we know don't always have the greatest impact.
Annual Membership also includes discounted rates for access to the WWPIS platform and all of our resources which can also act as a revenue stream for organisations.
The most important benefit of an Annual Membership is that it will give you priority on securing dates for live workshops and webinars. WWPIS has become a world leading brand in this space and securing dates and times to suit is becoming more of a challenge and we never want to let people down.
If you would like to discuss options that may be available to you or would like to set up an annual membership then please email me personally at [email protected].
PARENTS IN SPORT PODCAST - TOM KITCHIN
In this episode Michelin starred chef and sports parent Tom Kitchin joins Gordon MacLelland to discuss high performance and sports parenting. Tom has lived experience as a parent going through the football academy journey and it was great to discuss how his own working life in high performance has influenced his ongoing approach with his four children.
During the conversation they discuss amongst other things:

NEW BROCHURES
We are delighted with our new and refreshed brochures which give a really good overview of all of the work that we do here at WWPIS.
With an increasing number of diverse clients globally and ensuring we continue to provide a high quality, world leading product we have streamlined our services to meet the specific needs of those that we work with.
As a result of this we have created individual brochures for National Governing Bodies, Sporting Clubs and Organisations and Schools.
2023 saw us work with over 50 different organisations, over 15 NGB's/NSO's, delivering to over 1,000 coaches, 5,000+ parents and 100's of young people.
A large part of the success of WWPIS has been to relay information specific to the environments and contexts that people find themselves in and that is something that we continue to work hard to achieve through as many different mediums as possible.
