April newsletter - Earthshots, raises and Just Getting Started

Our current cohorts in Berlin and Cambridge are in full swing which means brand new founding teams forming every day, which means brand new startups tackling ten million tonnes of carbon reduction.

That goal is at the heart of everything we do and it's why we're extra delighted this week to see two of our alumni be nominated for the Earthshot Prize 2024. Massive congratulations to Deep Blue Biotech and Kita for their work on green chemicals in the beauty industry and carbon insurance prospectively.

?

Carbon13 also received recognition ourselves, the Financial Times listed us among the leading startup hubs in Europe . This was a proud moment for us because it recognises the work of the whole team, ?? to everyone who works so hard behind the scenes and in front.

?

The BBC did a deepdive into methane emissions from water , an overlooked source of GHG emissions accounting for 3 billion tonnes a year. They feature two of our startups, Bluemethane and Open Hydro, who are ahead of the ?? in tackling this space.

?

Carbon13 was also invited to the House of Lords this month, as part of the Startup Coalition's Climatetech Index 2024 , linking the world of climate with policy makers. I can confirm the afternoon tea was delicious.

• Open Hydro have successfully closed their latest funding round, full details and investors right here .
• Ki Hydrogen have joined Birmingham Climate Innovation Platform, an incubation space at Tyseley Energy Park , home to the UK's largest operating commercial electrolyser and a biomass power plant. They also have won a grant from Wales & West Utilities , to develop their biomass electrolysing tech
