April Fool’s Day Canceled – Replaced by April Heroes Day

Every April Fool’s Day I post an article saying that Congress has passed, and the President has signed, a Bill of Responsibilities to go along with the Constitutional Bill of Rights. Of course no one is ever fooled into believing that our nation’s leaders would do such a thing.

This year, though, I am canceling April Fool’s Day (at least in my corner of the world). This year it is much more appropriate to celebrate the April heroes who are on the frontlines of the #coronavirus epidemic.

Thank you to the caregivers – doctors, nurses, therapists, technicians, EMS professionals, and others who are caring for the sick, even when they themselves are anxious, exhausted and overwhelmed.

Thank you to the environmental services, facilities and maintenance, security, supply chain, and food service staff without whom the caregivers could not do their work.

Thank you do the phlebotomists, lab techs, pathologists, and laboratory clerical staff – if you don’t get your work right then everything else goes wrong.

Thank you to the controllers, accountants, patient billing staff, and financial officers – the bills for the coronavirus pandemic are only now starting to come due and we are going to need you to be at the top of your games to keep our organizations alive.

And a special thank you to the volunteers – including those who are devoting time and energy and money to helping assure that our healthcare professionals have the personal protection equipment they need for their own safety and the health of their families.

Here you can fill in the blank with your own roster of the everyday heroes who deserve our gratitude.

As the ICU team from the Methodist ICU team is reminding us, we got this, we everyday heroes who each in our own way are doing our parts to get us through this pandemic.

Or as we like to say at Values Coach, Proceed Until Apprehended!
