How to take a pragmatic approach to the skill-based organisation

Josh Bersin recently published an excellent short video (ENG) that shows how a focused but pragmatic skill-based strategy can revolutionise HR work and increase company success.?

He emphasises five important principles:

  1. The importance of clearly defining 'skills' and 'capabilities' within your organisation, aligning with business objectives rather than HR processes.
  2. The need for a dynamic, continuous approach to managing skills data that takes into account the rapidly changing skills and labour market.
  3. Prioritising business issues and aligning the skills-based approach to these issues directly increases the effectiveness and relevance of such initiatives.
  4. The role of technology in supporting skill-based strategies, particularly the potential of AI in improving skills inference and management, but also the need to critically evaluate the solutions offered by vendors.
  5. The importance of cross-functional collaboration and systemic HR to ensure skills initiatives are integrated into and support the overall business strategy.
