In the late 1980s, Brazil's healthcare system was struggling, with high infant mortality rates and inadequate access to medical care for many. In response, a group of women in the town of Cama?ari organised a grassroots movement called the Pastoral da Crian?a (Pastoral Care for Children). The group trained local volunteers to provide basic healthcare and nutrition education to mothers and children, and their efforts helped to reduce infant mortality rates by 50% in just a few years. Today, the Pastoral da Crian?a operates in more than 40,000 communities across Brazil and has expanded its focus to include issues such as domestic violence and poverty. Found out more?here

Pro tip on engagement?
Transforming healthcare systems around the world is incredibly complex.
领英推荐
There is no single organisation in the world who can deliver this level of complexity at this scale on their own.
We need to bring together different partners and people to be successful.
Collaboration is critical to deliver for the communities in which we live.
When considering change, go out early, engage people from the outset and establish your tribe.
