By the end of 2015, Gartner estimates that 4.9 billion connected things will be in use. Thus, we have 4.9 Billion reasons to celebrate today as the World IoT Day. Personally, I have never felt so overwhelmed because I have been invited to 5 International conferences within the next 6 months period to give invited talks and Keynote addresses.
The year started with CES 2015 which started to show off the multitude of gadgets for consumers. The word and hashtag #IoT has been trending on all social media platforms. Startups have been mushrooming from every where around the world. People have start to talk about Smart Cities in more earnestly - no longer talking about policies and blueprints.
Big Data becoming a hotter topic now. What is Big Data if there is no sensor data to analyse, right? Otherwise, it must just be confine to structured databases and social media data. When we have 4.9 Billion connected things generating data, that's where the game becoming more interesting. There is this recent news about IBM plans to invest $3 billion over four years on a new business helping customers gather and analyze the flood of data from sensor-equipped devices and smartphones. And they intend to partner with Weather Company to exploit data about weather conditions to help businesses make better decisions.
Thus, I would like to wish everyone of you who are reading this article - Happy World IoT Day!
