April 24th is National Teach Children to Save Day

With all of the schoolwork your kids are doing at home right now during this time of sheltering in place, one of the most valuable lessons you can teach them is about managing their money. In particular, you can instill in them the benefits of developing the habit of saving a part of their earnings (ie. allowance).

The lack of financial know-how is a serious problem in our nation. By sharing your own financial practices, skills, and knowledge, you can give your children the tools and inspiration they need for a successful financial future. You don't have to be a banking expert; you can use the "rainy day" example that we're going through right now as the perfect reason to save their pennies.

Although this holiday is sponsored by the #AmericanBankingAssociation and is geared to encourage bankers to visit schools and share basic financial information, that is not going to happen right now. With schools being closed, this may be a good time to share "real world" strategies that can help your children in the long run.
