April 22 - Earth Day
Invest In Our Planet
2022 Earth Day’s main theme is ‘invest in our planet’. Ganfeng has always been dedicated to supporting new energy industries and creating green and clean earth for our future.
Support New Energy Industries
-?The Company has provided about 350,000 tons of lithium salt products for the new energy industry chain in the past 20+ years.
-?From 2015 to 2020, new energy vehicles equipped with Ganfeng Lithium's new lithium salt products drove more than 88 billion kilometres around the world.
-?Helped reduce more than 12.5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions from 2015 to 2021.
Build battery recycling system
The creation of a complete battery recycling system is not only more conducive to environmental protection but also allows the resources and energy in waste materials to be fully and effectively recycled, conducive to the sustainable development of society.
-?In 2021, the amount of battery-related waste we recycled is about 25,800 tons.
-?The amount of lithium chloride extracted from lithium iron phosphate wastes is about 3,700 tons.
-?Nickel, cobalt, and manganese produced by processing ternary waste is 2,700 tons.
- Recycling rate of nickel, cobalt, and manganese is over 98%.

Sustainable solar power for mining and operation
Ganfeng’s lithium salt lake mining requires no high energy consumption process. In the early stage, it only needs sunshine as the main energy. We also use the sustainable energy generated by photovoltaic power stations during the lithium extraction procedure to ensure green operation. Ganfeng lithium plans to build a 150 MW photovoltaic power station + energy storage operation system. The scheme is one of the few projects in the plateau area of Salta province that can provide a 100% sustainable energy supply. Greenhouse gas emissions can be avoided through solar power generation, in this case, the emission of 157,000 tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced every year.
Regular environmental monitoring
In the surrounding area of the Mariana Project, our LMA team in Argentina conducts participatory environmental monitoring that is carried out to assess the evolution or dynamic behaviour of the environment at different times of the year throughout our project. The monitoring is carried out by personnel from our environmental consultant, specialized in each environmental aspect surveyed: vegetation, fauna, limnology, air quality, noise, soil, and water.
Environmental reserve zone
We set up an environmental reserve zone around Mariana salt lake. One of the most important areas is the northwestern lake area, which is the habitat of the protected species Andean flamingo. We emphasize in our environmental protection manual that limited human access must be complied with during the flamingos’ breeding period.
